Computer Info
Get a free, loaned computer for everything your student needs at LAU.
As a student at Leadership Academy of Utah (LAU), your child needs access to a reliable computer, internet, webcam, and microphone.
Students without access to a computer can check out an LAU Chromebook to use for the academic year. All LAU computers come equipped with a webcam and microphone.
As part of the computer checkout process, all parents and students must read and agree to the terms found in the Computer Handbook.
Guidelines and Procedures
-
Parent & Student Commitment
Chromebooks are the property of LAU. Students are responsible for returning them in working condition. Reasonable wear and tear are acceptable.
If damage occurs, parents will be charged the actual cost of any needed repairs, not to exceed the replacement cost of the computer. LAU requires that any damage to computers be reported within one week.
Parents are responsible for picking up and returning equipment.
A hold will be placed on the school records of students who fail to return Chromebooks and equipment. Additionally, a late fee of $25 per week may be assessed to you for failure to return equipment by the due date. Chromebooks must be returned within one week of exit. Withdrawn students who fail to return the Chromebook upon withdrawal may have a police report filed against them for stolen property.

How to Get an LAU Chromebook
Step 1: Submit the Computer Equipment Request Form
Requesting and checking out a Chromebook is a school-wide process that takes place each Fall and as needed throughout the year.
Step 2: Pick Up Your Student's Chromebook
Computers can be picked up in person at the Clearfield office or delivered via mail. You may specify your preference in the Computer Equipment Request form.
-
Reporting Chromebook Issues & Help with Passwords
If your student has trouble with their Chromebook or has forgotten their password, please fill out the Reporting Chromebook Issues form, and we will contact you as soon as possible.
-
Return, Exchange, and Incident Reports
If your student needs to return or exchange their Chromebook for any reason, please fill out the Computer Return, Exchange, or Incident Report form.
Exchanges
In the event that an LAU Chromebook needs to be exchanged, LAU will do so if a replacement is available.
General Returns
Chromebooks can be returned at any time throughout the school year by the following methods:
- By appointment at the Clearfield office
- Via mail (Parents cover the shipping fee unless the student lives further than 45 miles from the Clearfield office.)
Returns Due to Damage
If a student returns a damaged Chromebook and is issued a new one, parents will be required to submit the following:
- Computer Return, Exchange, or Incident Report form
- A new Computer Equipment Request form
- A new Computer Loan Agreement form
This ensures LAU records remain accurate and current.
Parents must pay for all computer damages before a new computer can be issued.
-
Receiving or Returning by Mail
All LAU families have the option of receiving or returning their computer(s) via mail if they prefer. Any family living within 45 miles of the Clearfield office is responsible for paying the shipping expenses before shipment. Arrangements to receive or mail computers can be made within the Computer Equipment Request form or the Computer Return, Exchange or Incident Report form.

Keeping Computer/Equipment from One Year to the Next
Returning LAU students who wish to keep their Chromebook from one school year to the next must complete the Computer Loan Agreement form as an annual renewal of their computer contract.
Computer Security
LAU school devices are intended for educational use only. We take internet safety and personal responsibility seriously. To help our families, we put the following safeguards in place:
Computers provided by LAU will come with filtering software pre-installed.
Entertainment, shopping, and gaming sites will be flagged and blocked by LAU.
All school computers can be monitored at any time for any reason.
All internet access is disabled on LAU-issued devices from 12:00 AM MT until 5:00 AM MT.
Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Windows Edge are the only allowed browsers on LAU-issued devices.

Tips for Parents
We recommend that parents regularly communicate with students about internet safety and set rules about the types of websites and content students are allowed to view. Even the best internet filters are not completely airtight, so the goal should be for students to learn to self-govern online, because parents can’t always control access.
Google’s SafeSearch and many other services offer search options that remove (most) adult content.
Please communicate with your student about the amount of time and the range of activities they can do online. In general, students should not surf the web or use social media during class or homework hours.
Additional tools and resources for building a secure in-home internet experience for your student can be found in our LAU Parent & Student Handbook and Computer Handbook. You can access these handbooks from our Parent Resource Center.

Right to Suspend Access
The use of LAU-issued devices and equipment is a privilege, not a right. Inappropriate use of these resources may result in disciplinary action (including suspension or expulsion) and/or referral to legal authorities. The Executive Director, a teacher or supervisor, or a systems administrator may limit, suspend, or revoke access to electronic devices at any time.
