What Our Courses Give Your Student

A Liberal Arts Education

At Leadership Academy of Utah (LAU), we believe in teaching students how to think, not what to think. To do this, we use a highly interactive and intellectually stimulating education model based on the Williamsburg curriculum. Our courses are jam-packed with engaging discussions, meaningful projects, and the original works of history’s best thinkers.

In-Depth Leadership Training

We train students to be leaders in their personal, social, professional, and financial lives—and students love it! Our dynamic, proven leadership courses are the heart of our program and among our most popular. We also emphasize time-tested leadership principles in all of our other courses.

Passionate, Expert Mentors

We call our teachers mentors because they aren’t just here to teach. Instead, our mentors go the extra mile to connect with your student. They’ll inspire your student to take charge of their education by seeing and believing in their potential. And they’ll make learning even the toughest subjects fun!

Stories from Middle School Students

“Attending Leadership class is a transformational learning experience! Everyone gets a chance to lead something—from a breakout room to a full slideshow! Ms. Tucker makes sure we are all nice to each other too, which creates a welcoming environment!”

“When I first started the 7th grade I was really nervous to start the new school year since I didn't know anybody or what this school year was going to be like, but Mrs. Burbank made the whole class feel like a safe space to share our ideas. It really helped because I have a hard time trying to share with other people sometimes. Throughout the year I grew more confident in participating in class and more confident in myself.”
Melinna
7th Grade
“I assumed my LA class would be boring, slow, and with lots of homework. It was all of those things except boring and slow. There is a lot of homework, but I learned that it is important, and will help me grow. The homework isn't boring, it is fun! Mrs G. taught me that I can do whatever I set my mind to, and that I matter and my education is important.”

Stories from High School Students

“At the beginning of this semester, I felt incompetent in my math skills. I was too shy to ask questions. But I started to realize this class was different. I started asking questions, first one or two, then more and more. I began to understand math and grew confident with it. Now, I am proud of my newfound ability to take something I don’t understand and work it out until I can do it in my sleep. None of this would have been possible without an environment where learning felt natural and safe. Thank you!”

“Over the course of this school year, particularly in my Social Leadership class, I have spent a lot more time looking inward and into my behaviors and surroundings. This has been great for me, as I have had the chance to look deeper and gain a greater understanding of myself, how I work, and what I can improve on. Self-mastery has become a very important aspect of my life through this process, and I've been able to improve a heck of a lot this year and understand more of myself.”
Triton

“As I have been completing mid-term assignments, I've had some breakthroughs in the way I've been able to juggle work, school, and sports. I felt like this was a transformational learning experience because I was able to implement things I've learned in some of my classes to help with stress management and be much more productive. Very cool!”
Ashton

“I was assigned to be a group leader of the Kurdish Delegation in the U.N. Peace Talks Simulation in my Geography & World Events class with Mrs. Stevenson. It challenged me to step up and lead, and I learned so much and had so much fun! In preparing for our talks, I got to know my classmates more outside of class, and I love all of them. Now I feel more comfortable talking on mic during class too!”

With No Hidden Agenda

No Agenda Curriculum Graphic

At LAU, our mission is to “Prepare Promising Students for Meaningful Lives as Principled Leaders.” To achieve this, we teach students how to think, not what to think. That means we do not promote any specific political agenda or religious philosophy in our classes. Instead, we guide students to explore topics from multiple viewpoints—so they can understand all sides and make informed conclusions.
